Telemedicine

Telemedicine is an ICT-driven specialty service that offers consultations in general medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology. They also provide referral services and conduct basic laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Telemedicine as a service provided by a licensed “medical practitioner” has successfully overcome geographical boundaries in offering healthcare solutions to both rural and underserved communities. These communities are recognised to typically struggle with inadequate access to specialist healthcare provisions and are most to gain from telemedicine services.

Telemedicine services operates through two components:

  1. The nodes, where the medical officer and nursing staff at the CHC, PHC, HSC are trained to tele-consult or redirect the beneficiary to the specialist at the hub.
  2. The hub, usually located in urban or city areas, are where the specialist (gynecologist, pediatrician, general medical practitioner) is stationed and use video conferencing to provide consults.

As the consultations do not mandate physical presence, it is cost-effective, time-saving and quick for the beneficiary with uncompromised quality services. The access to telemedicine services has created more awareness in the rural citizens on various health hazards, hygiene practices, communicable diseases, epidemic management and NCD management-thus reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary healthcare institutions.

Core Services: Detection & management of NCDs | Basic lab and diagnostic tests | Treatment | Referrals | Facilitate access to doctors and specialists | Specialist services (Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, General Medical Practitioner) | Data Capture on Electronic Medical Records | Creating Health Awareness.

Served around 3.5 lakh beneficiaries through its Telemedicine service operations.
