HIHL: A lifeline in crisis for Ashish and Anju

The process of childbirth requires timely and effective support, yet remote parts of the country lack access to such crucial services. Our Health Information Helpline (HIHL) serves to bridge this gap successfully.

One such success story is from Golaghat, Assam – of Ashish and his wife, Anju who were expecting a child. Four days before their due date, things took a turn for the worse and they needed urgent medical aid. They were referred to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital due to Anju’s unstable condition but failed to receive instant attention from the doctors or staff.

To overcome their anxiety, Ashish called our 104 SARATHI Helpline. He narrates the interaction:

“The Health Advisory Officer instantly responded, calmed me down, and was attentive to every detail about Anju’s condition. When I raised concerns about the lack of medical attention, he immediately contacted the superintendent of the hospital, explaining the urgency of the matter. The superintendent assured me that he would handle this case personally. The same evening, I was informed of Anju’s operation and later received a congratulatory call about a successful delivery!”

This story highlights the prompt and reliable services of the health information helpline which has supported many beneficiaries, especially in their time of crisis.
