This story of Tijeshwari Jurri from Chhattisgarh, showcases how our Frontline Workers (FLW) saved her life and despite complications, enabled a successful delivery of her child.
27-year-old Tijeshwari lives in Kanker district which reports high maternal and infant mortality rates. Pregnant with her second child, she started facing High Risk Pregnancy (HRP) complications in her second trimester and the nearby hospital could not support her.
To manage such cases, our USAID Saksham program has been working with FLWs of the district. We empower them through workshops and digital tools to handle MNCH complications and provide quality care to women like Tijeshwari.
We have constituted an FLW core group to receive mentorship and co-design solutions. We counsel them on HRP, nutrition supplements, and timely critical interventions.
Our efforts have been a game-changer for women like Tijeshwari. She shares her experience:
“My complicated case was taken up by FLWs due to which I got regular home follow-ups, close monitoring and individualised attention. They facilitated swift referrals to hospitals and ambulances. When I was issued a referral to the tertiary hospital in Raipur, they challenged this decision due to potential risks. This saved my life and ensured a successful delivery of my baby in Kanker itself.”
Our interventions have reduced morbidities, improved MNCH outcomes and strengthened accountability mechanisms especially among marginalized and vulnerable populations.
