From High Risk to Recovery: Ila Das’ Story

In Amtola village, Assam, a routine home visit by ASHA worker Baroda Das Kalita changed the course of Ila Das’ third pregnancy. Severely anaemic and physically weak, Ila was identified as a high-risk case, putting both her and her baby at serious risk.

Thanks to early identification under the Xushrukha Project, supported by the Utprerona job aid, Ila was immediately registered and placed under close medical supervision. She began regular antenatal checkups at Amtola Sub Centre, where Community Health Officer Mr. Inamamul Haque monitored her vitals, guided her on nutrition, and prepared a Micro Birth Plan recommending institutional delivery at GMCH Hospital.

As her due date neared, Ila’s husband expressed concern about affording hospital care. The ASHA, health team, and Block Supervisor Mr. Pranab Kalita reassured them that all services were free of cost under the scheme.

When labor began, an ambulance was swiftly arranged. Ila delivered a baby girl via C-section at GMCH. The newborn, though underweight, received critical care for 15 days and steadily recovered.

Today, both mother and child are thriving— a testament to the power of timely detection, community support, and health system responsiveness.
